Portsmouth, Ohio – Shawnee State men's soccer fell in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon, suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to Saint Francis (Ind.).
The first half saw Shawnee State controlling most of the possession, but the Bears were unable to break through with a goal. Shawnee State took nine shots in the first half, and had five corner kicks. Brandon Conn made two saves to keep the score level for Saint Francis.
The Cougars broke through with a goal in the 48th minute when Steven Johnson slotted home under the outstretched Cody Hartong. Shawnee State would again control most of the possession looking for a late equalizer, but the Saint Francis defense held firm to clinch the victory.
With the loss, Shawnee State falls to 1-4 on the season. Saint Francis improves to 3-3-1.
The Bears are next in action on Tuesday, September 20th when they play host to Mount Vernon Nazarene. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00pm.
