Portsmouth, Ohio – Shawnee State women's basketball rolled to their fifth straight victory on Tuesday night, defeating (RV) Indiana University-East 86-62.
A back and forth first quarter would see Shawnee State lead by only three, 19-16, but a 13-4 run would put the Bears up 32-20 with five minutes to halftime. The Bears would maintain that 12 point lead at halftime.
The Red Wolves would cut the lead to six points early in the third quarter, led by Tia King, but Shawnee State would reassert their lead and push it out to 15 points by the end of the quarter. SSU would close out the game to win by 24 points, shooting 55.6% from three to get the win.
Jen Arnzen (SR/Portsmouth, Ohio) would lead for Shawnee State with a double-double, scoring 22 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Brandie Snow (FR/Hartville, Ohio) would also score 22 points while adding eight rebounds, and Madison Ridout (JR/Jackson, Ohio) would have a double-double of her own with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Tia King had 11 points to lead the Red Wolves.
With the win, Shawnee State continues their hot start to the season and improves to 5-0. IU-East is handed their first loss of the season, falling to 3-1.
Shawnee State are next in action on Friday, November 11th when they take on Midway (Ky.) on day one of the Asbury Classic in Wilmore, Kentucky. Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00pm.
