Women's Basketball holds off Midway

Wilmore, Ky. – Shawnee State women's basketball won their sixth straight game to star the year, defeating Midway (Ky.) 92-71 in their first game at the Zwefiel/Pritchett Classic at Asbury University (Ky.).

The Bears got out to a 21-8 lead in the first quarter and would outscore Midway in a second quarter shootout to lead 49-30 after one half. Jonessa Moore (SR/Cincinnati, Ohio)'s 20 points led all scorers at half, with Brandie Snow (FR/Hartville, Ohio) chipping in 10 before the break.

The Eagles would then start the third quarter by going on a 22-6 run to put Shawnee State in trouble. However, the Bears would end the quarter on an 11-2 run to extend the lead back out to 12 points by the end of the quarter. The teams would trade baskets early in the fourth before Shawnee State would put the game away, winning by a final margin of 21.

Jonessa Moore led the way for the Bears with 32 points and eight rebounds. Madison Ridout (JR/Jackson, Ohio) added 15 points and a team high 10 rebounds, with Bailey Cummins (FR/Brooksville, Kentucky) also getting 15 points and Brandie Snow adding 14.

Courtney Pfister's 18 points led Midway, with Patrice Tonge adding 13.

With the win, Shawnee State improves to 6-0 on the new season. Midway falls to 1-3 after the loss.

The Bears are back in action tomorrow afternoon when they take on hosts Asbury. Tipoff is scheduled for 4:00pm.
