Lima, Ohio - Shawnee State women's basketball captured their third straight win on Tuesday night, using a huge second half to cruise past Northwestern Ohio 98-51.
The Bears led from wire to wire, but couldn't quite shake Northwestern Ohio in the first half. Shawnee State led by eight at the end of the first quarter, and built the lead out to 12 at the end of the first half, 37-25.
Shawnee State would go on an 8-0 run in the span of one minute to extend the lead to 45-25 right after halftime, and would outscore the Racers 34-12 to take a 71-37 lead going into the fourth quarter. The onslaught continued in the fourth quarter as SSU would again outscore UNOH, 27-14 to end the game. Shawnee State shot 12-22 from three, good for 54.5% to bury Northwestern Ohio.
Jonessa Moore (SR/Cincinnati, Ohio) led the way with 29 points for Shawnee State, with Madison Ridout (JR/Jackson, Ohio) and Bailey Cummins (FR/Brooksville, Kentucky) adding 18 points each. Mid-South Conference Freshman of the Year Ashton Lovely (SO/Jamestown, Ohio) made her debut after sitting out the first two games due to injury, and added eight points and three rebounds. Sogona Sidibe led Northwestern Ohio with 11 points.
With the win, the 11th-ranked Bears improve to 3-0 on the season. Northwestern Ohio falls to 0-2.
Shawnee State are next in action on Saturday, November 5th when they take on local rivals Rio Grande at Waller Gymnasium. Tipoff is set for 2:00pm.
