Williamsburg, Kentucky - Shawnee State volleyball lost on the road Tuesday night, falling 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-20) at (RV) University of the Cumberlands.
The Bears fell behind early in both sets one and two, and were unable to overcome the early deficits. Cumberlands used an 8-2 run to pull away in the first set, and a 5-0 run in the second set to outlast SSU. A back and forth third set saw Cumberlands pull away at the end to seal the victory.
Lauren Helbig (SR/Mansfield, Ohio) led all Shawnee State players with seven kills. Miranda Clark (SR/Chillicothe, Ohio) added five kills, and Deanna Smith (JR/Riverview, MI) had 16 assists and 11 digs. Jennifer Philpot led the way for Cumberlands, with a game-high 15 kills.
With the loss, Shawnee State fall to 3-17 on the year, and 0-10 in the Mid-South Conference. Cumberlands improve to 14-6, and 6-3 in the conference.
Shawnee State volleyball is next in action on Saturday, October 8th when they travel to Lebanon, Tennessee to take on Cumberland University in Mid-South Conference play. Game time is set for 1:00pm.
