Portsmouth, Ohio – Shawnee State women's soccer hosted Senior Day on Wednesday afternoon, and sent out lone senior Leslie Marsh (SR/Springboro, Ohio) in style with a 4-0 win over local rivals Rio Grande.
Maddie Woodard (JR/Camden, Ohio) curled in a shot from 20 yards to put the Bears up 1-0 in the first half. The goal was the only real opportunity of the half for either team as both teams struggled to keep possession.
The second half would continue in much the same way until the 75th minute, when the Bears would score three goals in quick succession. Olivia Ball (FR/Greenup, KY) would poke home after Clarissa McKinney (SO/Warren, OH) chested a ball down to her off a Jenny Campbell (JR/Chillicothe, Ohio) corner. Charity Collins (FR/Ashland, KY) would score in the 83rd minute on the break. Campbell would then score a goal of her own after a Maddie Woodard cross found Ball's feet, who then passed in to a streaking Campbell.
The Bears would honor senior Leslie Marsh after the game with a senior day celebration. Marsh, a midfielder from Springboro, Ohio, has seven goals and five assists through 61 career matches for Shawnee State. Leslie's parents Monty and Sharon walked with her. Marsh is a double major in Psychology and Occupational Therapy, and is a two-time Mid-South Conference All-Academic selection.
With the win, Shawnee State improve to 5-4-2 and get their fifth straight win. Rio Grande fall to 3-10-2.
The Bears are next in action on Wednesday, October 26th when they take on Mid-South Conference rivals Georgetown in a pivotal late season match. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00pm.
