Men's Soccer fall to #2 Rio Grande

Portsmouth, Ohio – Shawnee State men's soccer were back in action on Wednesday afternoon, falling to #2 Rio Grande 8-0.

The Bears' defense held strong through 42 minutes of the first half. Jorge Guinovart would get the breakthrough goal in the 43rd minute to give Rio Grande the lead. Pau Rodriguez would score the first of three goals on the afternoon just before half on a free kick to make it 2-0 to the Red Storm.

The floodgates would open in the second half for Rio Grande. Rodriguez would get his second goal of the afternoon in the 49th minute. After an own goal in the 51st minute, Eduardo Zurita would score in the 59th minute, followed by Rodriguez' third in the 64th minute. Substitutes Deri Corfe and Matheus Morgan would score in the 72nd and 87th minutes to cap the scoring.

With the loss, Shawnee State falls to 5-9 on the season. Second-ranked Rio Grande improves to 13-1-1.

The Bears are at home on Saturday, October 22nd for Senior Day when they take on Midway (Ky.) Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00pm.
