Portsmouth, Ohio – Shawnee State men's soccer hosted Senior Day on Saturday afternoon, falling to Midway (Ky.) 3-0.
The Bears would own most of the possession in the first half, but would find themselves trailing at halftime. Midway's Joe Jessop would take a crack from 35 yards, slipping it past Brandon Pfeiffer (JR/Canal Winchester, Ohio) in goal to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead in the 38th minute. Martyn Sayer (SR/Liverpool, England) would nearly equalize twice, but Christian Neira would deny him twice to preserve the lead.
The second half was more even, and would see two Midway goals to seal the win. Brad Wilson would score in the 54th minute to put Midway up 2-0 after Bryce Romanello (FR/Lucasville, Ohio) hit the crossbar at the other end. Kazuto Sugawara (SR/Tokyo, Japan) would be shown a red card in the 75th minute, which was followed by a spell of attacking possession for Shawnee State. The Eagles would seal the game when Carlos Pinto curled in from 18 yards in the 89th minute.
With the loss, Shawnee State falls to 5-10 on the season. Midway improves to 7-6-1.
The Bears are next in action on Wednesday, October 26th when they return to Mid-South Conference action, hosting Georgetown. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00pm.
