Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Bears fall 2-1 to open Crimson Wave Invitational

EAST CHICAGO, Ind. (Women's Soccer) – Jenny Campbell (FR/Chillicothe, Ohio) scored in the 74th minute for the Shawnee State women's soccer team, but it was not enough to erase a 2-0 lead as Clarke University sent the Bears to the consolation game of the Crimson Wave Invitational on Saturday in East Chicago, Ind.

Clarke took a 1-0 advantage when Renee Dionisio connected in the 16th minute for the Crusaders, the lone score of the opening half.

The score remained as such over the next 53 minutes, through the first half and into the second. It was not until the 69th minute when Sara Doerr pushed a shot past the SSU keeper for a goal to extend the lead to 2-0 in favor of Clarke.

Campbell's goal came in the 74th minute, but was simply too little, too late. The Bears managed just three shots during the contest, the lone one on target coming off Campbell's goal.

Freshman keeper Rachel Sexton (FR/Hillsboro, Ohio) took the first loss of her career, falling to 1-1 in the net for the Bears.

SSU returns to action in the consolation match of the tournament on Sunday versus Saint Mary of the Woods, who fell to the host institution, Calumet College in the opening round. The match is set to begin at 9 a.m.
