Bears blanked, 2-0, against Bluefield

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio (Women's Soccer) – The Shawnee State women's soccer team collected 11 shots – including five shots on goal – but could not put one past the Bluefield College goalkeeper, as the Rams shut out the Bears, 2-0, on Tuesday evening at Shawnee Turf.

Aubrey Sherman (SR/Clarksville, Ohio) had four shots, Schuyler Jones (JR/Ramnicu Valcea, Romania) added three and Jessica Fair (JR/Negley, Ohio) tacked on a pair, each on goal for the home squad, who was unable to beat BC keeper Brandi Anderson all match.

The Rams, meanwhile, put four shots on target in the opening frame, one of which led to a 1-0 lead at the break. It was Whitney Browning who found the back of the net in the 22nd minute to give Bluefield the advantage.

In the second half, it was more than 25 minutes before the ball again found its intended target. This time, it was Victoria Doyle, who gave the Rams a much-needed insurance score.

The Bears would never find the promised land, but not without a pair of chances in the closing ten minutes which each found the mitts of Anderson.

SSU keeper Mollie King (JR/West Jefferson, Ohio) faced eight shots in the contest and recorded six saves in the defeat.

Shawnee State returns to action on Friday for a road-bout with Kentucky Christian on Friday at 3 p.m., before returning home for senior day on Saturday against the University of Pikeville.
