Women's Falls in Offensive Battle to Ohio Christian, 5-4

CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio – Women's soccer dropped a high scoring affair to Ohio Christian, 5-4, Tuesday afternoon on the road. The Bears (7-5-1) and Trailblazers (5-5) were tied at two-all after 45 minutes and the scoring did not slow over the final 45 minutes. Unfortunately, a 3-2 edge in the second half went to the hosts.

As a team, the Bears outshot Ohio Christian by a 25-12 margin in the match. SSU also held a 14-11 advantage in shots on goal and a 10-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Schuyler Jones got the scoring started earlier for the visitors as she and Elizabeth Abbott connected for the first goal of the game just 4:20 into the opening half. For Abbott, the assist was her team-leading seventh of the season against NAIA-Countable opponents.

Ohio Christian would take their first lead of the game in the 38th minute after scoring on its second breakaway chance of the game. The Trailblazers also tallied in this fashion during the 26th minute of play. Jessica Fair would get the game back to even with just 1:10 left in the opening half as she tallied an unassisted goal for her eighth goal of the year.

OCU retook the lead in the 59th minute on a strike 50 yards out on a direct kick to take a 3-2 advantage. However, just over two minutes later Allison Nagle would knot the game up for the third time after Jones was taken down in the box. Nagle converted the PK try for her 16th goal of the season.

Once again, Ohio Christian would not go away as another goal in the 68th minute would put the hosts back on top, 4-3. Once again, Shawnee State was right there with an answer as Jones tallied her second goal of the game and 13th of the season.

Unfortunately for the Bears, they just could never retake the lead that they once held in the opening minutes. Finally, bad luck would doom their chances at the victory as an own goal off the back of one of the Bears' defenders with just 2:46 left on the clock would be the winning tally

Women's soccer will be back in action this weekend as it hosts Campbellsville in a key MSC meeting. The match with Campbellsville will be played Saturday at 1 p.m. and be part of a doubleheader with the men's team who is slated for a 3 p.m. start.
