The Shawnee State Softball Team (1-1) opened up the 2012 season with a split against Cardinal Stritch (1-1) on their spring break trip in Pensacola, FL on
Monday.
The Bears lost the opener 1-0. Cardinal Stritch posted the only run of the game in the third inning.
Shawnee tallied six hits in the game. Freshman Brytan Givens (Frankfort, OH) went 2-for-2 in the game.
Junior Ali Thompson (Franklin Furnace, OH) was tagged with the loss. She pitched a complete game allowing one run on three hits and two walks. She struck out nine in the game.
Shawnee State won game two 3-2. Cardinal Strich got on the board first posting a run in the third. The Bears answered knotting the game in the bottom of the third as sophomore Nikki Nance (Proctorville, OH) scored on an RBI by junior Sam Attinger (Mt. Orab, OH).
Cardinal Stritch regained the lead in the fourth, scoring a run.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Bears scored two runs to take a 3-2 victory. Attinger doubled to left field to score sophomore Brittany Ellis (Lucasville, OH) and freshman Katy Bender (Canal Winchester, OH) scored on a wild pitch to give Shawnee their first win of the season.
Ellis went 3-for-3 at the plate.
Sophomore Tara Prater (Hilliard, OH) got the win pitching a complete game allowing two runs on nine hits with two strikeouts.
