The Shawnee State Softball Team (3-1) swept Oakland City University on Wednesday on their second day of their Spring Break Trip.
Shawnee won game one 8-1.
Shawnee got on the board in the fifth scoring six runs. Senior Jourdan Priddy (Xenia, OH) led off the inning with a base hit and freshman Katy Bender (Canal Winchester, OH) reached on a walk. Junior Sam Attinger (Mt. Orab, OH) loaded the bases as she was hit by a pitch. Freshman Brytan Givens (Frankfort, OH) was also hit by a pitch, scoring Priddy. An RBI single by junior Ericka Leighty (South Point, OH), scoring Bender. Attinger and Givens scored on a wild pitch and sophomore Brittany Ellis hit a triple to right field, scoring sophomore Kirsti Yates (Chillicothe, OH) and Leighty giving the Bears the 6-0 advantage.
The Bears added to their lead in the sixth. Leighty had an RBI triple scoring Givens and sophomore Holly Brabson (Piketon, OH) scored Leighty on an RBI single.
Oakland City scored a run in the sixth, but it wasn't enough as they fell 8-1.
Sophomore Ali Thompson (Franklin Furnace, OH) improved to 1-1 on the mound with the win. She pitched a complete game allowing one run on three hits, five walks, while striking out six batters.
Leighty finished 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs scored and two RBI's. Attinger went 2-for-3 in the game with a run scored.
Shawnee State won game two 13-3 in five innings.
The Bears posted four runs in the first and seven more in the second to jump out to an 11-0 lead. Oakland City got on the board in the third with a run, but Shawnee answerd scoring two more runs in the fourth. In their final attempt, Oakland City scored two runs in the fifth but it wasn't enough as they fell in five innings.
Sophomore Tara Prater (Hilliard, OH) got the win allowing three runs (one earned) on two hits in 5.0 innings.
Givens, Brabson and Yates each had two hits in the game while scoring two runs.
