The Shawnee State Baseball Team (8-10, 0-2) lost a doubleheader at St. Catharine's on Saturday to open conference action.
The Bears fell in the opener, 2-1. The two teams combined for eight hits in the game, Shawnee with three and the Patriots with five.
Senior Austin Dunfee was tagged with the loss. He pitched a complete game allowing two runs on five hits and two walks. Austin struck out eight batters in the game.
Ryan Rizzi got the win for the Patriots. He pitched a complete game allowing one run (unearned) on three hits, one walk, while striking out six.
Junior Colin Keim (Clinton, OH) went 2-for-4 in the game.
In the nightcap, Shawnee fell 1-0. Senior Alex Taku (Santa Cruz, OH) pitched a complete game allowing one run on five hits, one walk and one strike out.
St. Catharine's Javier Perez got the win allowing two hits, while striking out three.
Shawnee State only had two hits in the game.
Shawnee State and St. Catharine face off today to complete the 3-game series. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
