LEBANON, Tenn. – All season long teams having been trying to slow down Cumberland University's Kelsey Langille. On Saturday, women's soccer also fell victim to her scoring prowess as the freshman sensation tallied four times in her team's 7-0 win at home in the regular season finale for both teams.
For Langille, the game was her fourth this season with at least four goals. She currently leads the nation in goals, having scored 34 times during the regular season after today's contest.
The Bulldogs (14-2, 8-1 MSC) did not get on the board until the 21st minute of play. However, Langille would tally her first goal during that time and add the team's third goal in the 38th minute to give her squad a 3-0 lead headed into the break. Her two goals were sandwiched around the second Cumberland tally which came during the 29th minute of play.
Cumberland added three more goals in just over the first 20 minutes of the second half. CU's freshman would then tally her fourth goal in the 89th minute of play to cap off her four goal performance.
The Bears only recorded two shots on the day as Natasha Wilson and Schuyler Jones each had chances to tally for SSU. They would put both of those tries on goal, but each was saved. In goal, Emilly Kuehn had a very busy day. She faced a total of 18 shots on goal over the full 90 minutes. She made 11 stops on the day.
SSU concludes the regular season with an overall record of 8-10, including a 3-6 mark in conference play. With that record, the Bears have earned the No. 7 seed in the upcoming Mid-South playoffs. They will match up against this same Cumberland team in the quarterfinal round.
Women's soccer will have exactly one week to learn from this contest as the teams will meet again on the same field next Saturday, Oct. 3. That game is tentatively scheduled noon (EST) start time.
