Bears tie with WV Tech

With 13 second remaining in regulation, sophomore Jacob Hackworth found the back of the net, knotting the game at 2-2 and forcing overtime. Neither team was able to capitalize in two overtimes as Shawnee State and West Virginia Tech tied 2-2 in the "Kick for Crohn's" game on Friday afternoon. The Bears go 5-4-1, while WV Tech 3-2-2.

Shawnee State and WV Tech both teams got on the board with own goals. Shawnee State got on the board first on an own goal in the 12th minute of play and WV Tech scored on an own goal by the Bears in the 53rd minute. The Golden Bears took the lead at the 77:00 minute mark on a goal by Tyle Fabain, assisted by Jonathan Day. It looked as if the Golden Bears would come out on top, until freshmen Joseph Webster and Dylan Stevens found Hackworth and Hackworth scored 19 yards out to knot the game. Hackworth's goal was his third of the season.

Both teams had several opportunities in the overtimes, but failed to finish which resulted in the tie.

West Virginia Tech just out shot the Bears 10-7 on shots on goal.

SSU's senior Kevin Fischer tallied nine saves in the contest, including five of which were in overtime. WV Tech's John Dunn recorded six saves on the day.

Shawnee State hosts Pikeville on Tuesday, October 4 in a conference doubleheader. The women's game is set to begin at 2:00 p.m with the men's to follow at 4:00 p.m.
