After a scoreless first half, the Shawnee State Men's Soccer Team scored four goals in the second half to defeat University of Pikeville 4-1 on Tuesday afternoon. Shawnee State improves their record to 6-4-1 on the season and 2-1 in the Mid-South. Pikeville falls to 3-6 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
Freshman Joseph Webster got the Bears rolling as he scored his fourth goal of the season on an assist from sophomore Jacob Hackworth in the 62nd minute. Pikeville knotted the game at 1-1 less than two minutes later on a goal by Felipe Garcia. SSU's freshman Dylan Stevens scored back-to-back goals for the Bears', to give them the 3-1 advantage. Dylan scored in the 72nd minute on an assist from Webster. Six minutes later he scored again off of a deflection from UPike's goalie Sheldon Thomas. Freshman Tanner Hopwood completed Shawnee's scoring in the 89th minute as he dribbled past Pikeville's defenders to find the back of the net.
Shawnee State outshot Pikeville 16-5 on shots on goal.
Senior Kevin Fischer recorded four saves to improve to 6-4-1 in goal. Pikeville's Sheldon Thomas tallied nine saves in the loss.
Shawnee State travels to No. 2 Lindsey Wilson on Saturday for a conference doubleheader. The women's game is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. (EST), with the men's game to follow at 8:00 p.m.
