Freshman Molly King got the Bears rolling, scoring the Bears' first two goals of the game en route to a 3-0 shutout of Ohio Christian on Monday afternoon. Shawnee State improves to 6-2 on the season.
It took each team awhile to get rolling as the rain caused some problems in the contest. Senior Emmy Kennedy found King for her first goal in the 21st minute, giving the Bears the 1-0 lead at the break.
In the 63rd minute King collected a ball at the top of the box off of a deflection and found the back of the net for her second goal of the afternoon. Kennedy finished the Bears' scoring as she scored her second goal of the season on an assist by freshman Allison Nagle in the 75th minute.
Shawnee State's defense played a stellar game, allowing only three shots on goal compared to the Bears' 13 shots on goal.
Freshman Shelbi Halverson got the win as she recorded three saves in the game. OCU's Amy Hardbarger tallied nine saves in the loss.
Shawnee State returns home on Friday, September 30 as they host West Virginia Tech for a non-conference doubleheader. The Bears and the Golden Bears face off in the Kick for Crohns game. The women's game is set to begin at 2:00 p.m. with the men's game to follow at 4:00 p.m.
