Bears beat Ohio Christian 3-0

Shawnee State University Bear defeated Ohio Ciirstian University 3-0 in a non-conference match on Monday afternoon. With the win Shawnee moves to 5-4 on the season, while Ohio Christian falls to 5-2-1.

In a game riddled with fouls, the first half began with several possession changes in a fairly even match up. The first score came from Shawnee sophomore Jacob Hackworth in the 28th minute of the game. Hackworth scored after a thru ball came from freshman Joseph Webster. No one would score again in the 45 minutes and Shawnee went into halftime up 1-0. Two yellow cards were handed out, one for Shawnee and one Ohio Christian.

Five minutes into the second half, sophomore Kyle Brooks swung all momentum in Shawnee's favor by scoring a second goal for the Bears. Junior Chad Johnston collected the assist after setting up the goal for Brooks to finish. Later, in the 75th minute, Brooks would be involved in setting up the third and final goal to win the game for Shawnee, this time he assisted freshman Dylan Stevens. Steven scored after Brooks headed a ball over the last Ohio Christian defender for Stevens to finish. Four more yellow cards were handed out in the second half, all to Ohio Christian.

Shawnee will take the field again against a non-conference foe, West Virginia Tech, Friday, September 30th. The meeting will celebrate the Kick for Crohn's Day match, and begin at the conclusion of the women's match. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:00 p.m.
