Shawnee State falls in heartbreaker to St. Francis

The Shawnee State Men's Team fell in a heartbreaker to the University of St. Francis (IN) 3-2 on Sunday afternoon. The Bears fall to 2-2 overall on the season, while the Cougars improve their record to 2-4.

In a very physical contest, Shawnee State had opportunities as they out shot the Cougars 11-8 in shots on goal.

St. Francis controlled most of the first half as they tallied two goals. USF's Al Williams scored on an assist by Sam Meyer in the 16th minute and Jake Briede scored unassisted in the 40th minute to give the Cougars the 2-0 lead at the half.

Williams and Meyer teamed up again in the 48th minute, this time Meyer scoring on an assist from Williams to give the Cougars the 3-0 advantage.

Shawnee State rallied back. In the 58th minute junior Chad Johnston scored his fifth goal of the season on an assist by senior Lenier Crawford. In the 84th minute of play freshman Joseph Webster scored off of a corner kick by Johnston to cut the Cougars lead to 3-2, but that was as close as the Bears would get as they would fall in the non-conference battle.

SSU's Kevin Fischer was tagged with the loss. The senior gave up three goals but tallied five saves in the contest. USF's Seth Tutton recorded nine saves in the win.

Shawnee State returns home on Tuesday, September 13 to host old conferece rival Cedarville in a non-conference game. The two teams will square off beginning at 4:00 p.m .on Shawnee Turf.
