The Shawnee State Women's Basketball fell to Robert Morris 64-57 at the Purdue Calumet Classic to open the season.
The Bears led 7-6 early, but Celeste Jones hit a 3-pointer to give Robert Morris the lead. The Colonials went on to lead by as many as 12 late in the half, but sophomore Alannah Sheets hit a 3-pointer with 1:26 left and senior Abby Ballman hit a jumper to end the half, cutting the Colonials lead to 37-30.
The two teams opened the second half exchanging buckets, until back-to-back lay-ups by junior Alex Pohl gave the Bears the 42-41 lead. Robert Morris recaptured the lead on a three point play by Uniqua Hampton and the Colonials never trailed again en route to the 64-57 victory.
Sheets led the Bears with 20 points, while Pohl added 10 and eight rebounds. Sophomore Tabby Ballman added nine points and pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds. Ballman entered the game with 993 points and scored nine points to surpass the 1,000th career point mark.
Shawnee State faces host Purdue Calumet today at 2:00 p.m.
