Spriggs spent all five of her years as an assistant in the Shawnee State volleyball program under then head coach, Susan Spriggs.
2020
Spriggs became the seventh head coach in Shawnee State volleyball history in 2020, inheriting a program that had posted a 53-112 record over the previous five seasons.
In her first season at the helm, Spriggs led Shawnee State to an 11-12 (.478) record, posting its highest win percentage since 2014 (.484).
Under Spriggs, junior outside hitter Macie Rhoads earned First-Team All-Mid-South Conference and NAIA All-American honors.
Rhoads obtained Mid-South Conference Attacker of the Week honors four times for Shawnee State -- including each of the final three weeks of the season.
The Bears earned the No. 6 seed in the Mid-South Conference Tournament. After sweeping No. 11 Freed-Hardeman in the opening round, Shawnee State fell to No. 3 Georgetown in the second round.
2021
In her second season in Portsmouth, Spriggs led the Shawnee State volleyball program to a 17-13 record, marking its first winning season since 2013.
The Bears began the year 8-1, which was the second-best start to a season in school history, only behind the 2008 unit that won its first 24 matches to begin the season.
Senior Macie Rhoads earned her second-consecutive First-Team All-Mid-South Conference honor and became a two-time NAIA All-American.
As the No. 8 seed, Shawnee State defeated No. 9 Bethel in the opening round of the Mid-South Conference Tournament, before falling to No. 1 Life in the second round.
Rhoads graduated from Shawnee State as the program's all-time leader in kills (1,889) and total attacks (5,194), and second in sets played (535), kills per set (3.53) and serve receives (2,397). She also holds the single-season record for kills per match (4.20), which was set during the 2020 season.
2022
After a 13-15 regular season, Shawnee State earned the No. 7 seed for the Mid-South Conference Tournament.
The Bears defeated No. 10 Tennessee Southern in the opening round, advancing to the second round for the third consecutive year, where they fell to No. 2 Cumberland in four sets.
2023
Shawnee State transitioned from the Mid-South Conference to the River States Conference prior to the 2023 season.
In its first season in the RSC, Shawnee State posted a 16-12 overall record and an 11-8 mark in conference play.
The Bears earned the No. 6 seed for the River States Conference Tournament, falling to No. 3 Oakland City in the opening round.
Junior middle hitter Kylee Barney and junior outside hitter Haidyn Wamsley both earned All-River States Conference First-Team honors.
2024
The Bears posted a similar 16-13, 9-7 record in its second season in the River States Conferece, earning the No. 5 seed for the conference tournament.
Shawnee State would fall in straight sets to No. 4 Saint Mary-of-the-Woods in the opening round.
Wamsley repeated as a First-Team All-River States Conference selection, while senior middle hitter Kylee Gifford earned First-Team All-RSC honors for the first time.
Junior setter Makaela Lovely was named to the All-RSC Third Team.
Spriggs was named the River States Conference's Coach of Character in 2024.
2025
Shawnee State posted a 21-12 overall record and a 10-6 mark in conference play in 2025, marking the program's most wins in a single season since 2012 (22).
The Bears earned the No. 7 seed for the River States Conference Tournament, where the lost in the opening round to No. 2 Saint Mary-of-the-Woods.
Senior libero Megan Steele earned First-Team All-RSC honors, becoming the first Shawnee State volleyball player to receive the honor.
Sophomore middle hitter Camille McIntosh was named to the All-RSC Second Team.
Lovely repeated as an All-RSC Third-Team honoree, while freshman outside hitter Katelynn Boerger also earned third-team honors.
PRIOR TO SHAWNEE STATE
Spriggs is a Scioto County native who graduated from Northwest High School in 2011 and Shawnee State University in 2015.
A four-year letter winner for the Shawnee State volleyball program, Spriggs is the only individual in Shawnee State athletics history to earn a conference's Champions of Character honor as both a player and a coach. In 2014, she was named the Mid-South Conference's Champions of Character Award winner for volleyball, an honor recognizing student-athletes for their character and sportsmanship. A decade later, Spriggs was named the River States Conference's Coach of Character in 2024, becoming the first volleyball coach in conference history to receive the award.
Spriggs ranks tied for sixth all time in single-season serving percentage, a mark she set as a freshman in 2011. She also ranks 14th in career assists (700), 19th in single-season assists (593) and 20th in career assists per game (2.13).
Off the court, Spriggs excelled academically and demonstrated a strong commitment to her community. She earned All-Academic Mid-South Conference honors in 2013 and 2014 and received the Mid-South Conference's Champions of Character Award as a senior.
Before her time at Shawnee State, Scarberry was a three-sport athlete at Northwest, competing in basketball, softball and volleyball. She finished her high school basketball career as the program's second all-time leading scorer and helped lead the volleyball team to a winning record in each of her four seasons.
Spriggs, an intervention specialist at Northwest High School in McDermott, Ohio, is the daughter of Rick and Trish Scarberry. Her brother, Drew Scarberry, is a former Northwest graduate and four-year letter winner at Notre Dame College. Both Devan and Drew scored more than 1,000 points during their high school basketball careers at Northwest.
