Shawnee State Suffers Straight-Set Loss to Ohio Dominican

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Shawnee State (2-6, 0-0) suffered a straight-set loss to Ohio Dominican Saturday night at Alumni Hall.

Set 1

Ohio Dominican jumped out to a 7-0 lead to begin the first set, and extended its advantage to 18-8 through the middle of the frame.

Consecutive attacking errors for the Panthers cut Shawnee State's deficit to 18-10, however, Ohio Dominican scored seven of the final eight points to win the opening frame 25-11.

Katelynn Boerger led the Bears with two kills in the set, while Camille Hall and Bree Hicks each added one.

Set 2

Shawnee State started the second set strong, taking a 6-3 lead behind kills from Hall, Hicks, Natalie Reida and Camille McIntosh.

The Panthers rallied, however, fighting back to tie the frame at 10-10.

The Bears briefly took a 12-10 advantage before Ohio Dominican responded with a 7-0 run to take a 17-12 lead.

Trailing 20-13, Shawnee State scored seven of the next nine points to cut the Panthers' lead to 22-20.

Despite the Bears' rally, Ohio Dominican scored three of the final four points to win the set, 25-21, and take a 2-0 match lead.

Set 3

The third frame opened evenly, with neither team holding a lead larger than two points until the Panthers went on a 5-0 run to lead 13-7.

Down 23-13, Shawnee State went on a 5-0 run, highlighted by kills from Boerger and Hicks, to cut Ohio Dominican's lead to 23-18.

The Panthers responded with back-to-back kills to win the set, 25-18, and clinch the match in straight sets.


Bears by the Numbers

Katelynn Boerger, Camille Hall and Natalie Reida led Shawnee State with five kills apiece. Hall also paced the Bears with four blocks.

Cally Carpenter tallied a team-high 13 assists, marking the second time this season the sophomore has led the team in that category.

Graci Claxon led Shawnee State with seven digs.
