WEST LIBERTY, W. Va. -- Shawnee State (3-5-2, 2-3-1) defeated West Liberty, 1-0, Sunday afternoon at the West Family Athletic Complex.
Sei Aitoku logged his first shot on goal of the season in the 17', but it was saved by Hilltopper goalkeeper Shai'ya Fitzgerald.
Mathias Palmeria put a shot on goal in the 43' that was saved by Fitzgerald.
Eduardo Peña started in goal for the Bears and posted a three-save shutout first half, as Shawnee State and West Liberty finished the first half in a scoreless tie.
Fitzgerald recorded his third save of the afternoon as
Hugo Martins put a shot on goal in the 65'.
In the 73',
Marc Garcia Oliver scored his first goal of the season, assisted by
Wilfredo Obregon, to give Shawnee State a 1-0 lead.
Peña made a save in the 82' to preserve the Bears' 1-0 advantage.
Neither team recorded a shot on goal over the final eight minutes, as Shawnee State held on for the 1-0 victory over West Liberty.
