PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- Shawnee State (1-4-2, 1-3-2) defeated Davis & Elkins, 2-1, Wednesday night at the Shawnee Turf.
The Bears did not record a shot through the first 39 minutes of the half, while
Harlee Brand recorded three saves to keep the Senators scoreless.
In the 40',
Lucie Ashkettle netted her second goal of the season to give Shawnee State a 1-0 lead.
Neither team recorded a shot over the final five minutes of the half, as the Bears took a 1-0 advantage into the break.
Brand made three quick saves over the first four minutes of the second half before adding two more in the 55' and 58'.
In the 80',
Sabina Morera Mas scored her first goal of the season to extend the Bears' lead to 2-0.
Davis & Elkins responded with a goal in the 88' to cut its deficit to 2-1.
The match went without a shot over the final two minutes as Shawnee State secured the 2-1 victory over the Senators.
Bears by the Numbers
Lucie Ashkettle scored her team-leading second goal of the season. The senior also leads the Bears with four points.
Sabina Morera Mas scored her first-career goal in the 80', which proved to be the game-winning goal for the Bears.
Harlee Brand recorded 12 saves in the match, marking her second-highest single-game total of the season. Her 65 saves this season rank first in the Mountain East Conference, and are 17 ahead of the next-highest total.
After not scoring over the first four matches of the season, Shawnee State has scored four goals over its last three contests.
