PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- A familiar face will lead the Shawnee State women's golf program this season as Alex Pratt has been named the team's head coach.

Pratt, a 2023 Shawnee State graduate, has served as an assistant coach for the men's golf team under Dave Hopkins the past two seasons. He will continue in that role while serving as head coach of the women's program.

The 23-year-old began his varsity golf career as a seventh grader. He earned five varsity letters in golf between Bowling Green High School and Marion Pleasant High School.

Pratt also lettered in basketball as a junior and senior at Marion Pleasant.

After accepting a golf scholarship from current head coach Dave Hopkins, Pratt began his collegiate golf career at Shawnee State in the fall of 2021.

Pratt played two and a half seasons with the Bears before graduating early with a bachelor's degree in business management in the fall of 2023.

As a freshman he was named to the 2021 Roger Merb Invitational All-Tournament Team.

Immediately after graduating, Pratt joined the Shawnee State men's golf coaching staff, where he has served the past two seasons.

Academically, Pratt is currently pursuing his MBA through the C.H, School of Business at Shawnee State.

The women's golf team will begin its fall season Monday, Sept. 14, at the Pikeville Fall Invitational in Pikeville, Kentucky at Stonecrest Golf Course.
