Box Score OWENSBORO, Ky. -- For the first time this season, Shawnee State WBB (17-7, 8-4) has dropped back-to-back games following losses to No. 8 Rio Grande and Brescia.
The Bears and Bearcats traded runs and leads throughout the first quarter before Shelbie Beatty hit a three-pointer with 1:04 remaining to give Brescia a 23-20 lead they did not relinquish for the remainder of the game, as led Shawnee State 23-22 at the end of the frame.
The Bearcats extended their lead in the second quarter, outscoring the Bears 23-15 to take a 46-37 lead into halftime.
Miyoshi Ellis led Shawnee State in first-half scoring with 10 points along with two steals, while Brescia's Brooklyn Stewart led all scorers with 16 points.
The Bearcats maintained a nine-point lead at the end of the third quarter, as both teams scored 26 points in the period.
Brescia controlled the pace in the fourth quarter, outscoring Shawnee State 21-19 to secure the 93-82 win over the Bears.
The 93 points allowed by the Bears marked their highest total surrendered in a single game this season, and the third time in five games they have given up 90 or more points.
Shawnee State committed 28 personal fouls, leading to 38 free throws for Brescia, which made 26.
The Bears were led in scoring by
Miyoshi Ellis, who finished with a season-high 26 points on 11-of-19 shooting from the field, 1-of-2 from beyond the arc and 3-of-5 from the free-throw line.
Laken Williams scored 15 points and collected seven steals. Williams has scored in double figures in five of the Bears' last six games.
TK Catchings tallied 15 points, snagged eight rebounds and blocked two shots, while
Jariah Steele added seven points and two rebounds.
The duo of
Kyla Torok and
Emily Maynard scored six points apiece, while
Ra'Khyia Prince finished with five.
Catchings, Steele and Torok all fouled out of the contest.
