Box Score PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- Shawnee State (19-4, 11-0) trailed by 10 points in the second half of Tuesday night's conference matchup with Rio Grande before mounting a double-digit comeback to earn an 84-79 victory over the RedStorm.
Rio Grande started fast and efficient on Tuesday at Waller Gymnasium, outscoring Shawnee State 42-35 in the first half.
The RedStorm's Delon McCloud led all scorers in the half with with 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting (3-of-4 from three-point range).
Jaiden Guice led Bears in first-half scoring with eight points, while
Kiante Williams and
Jason Steele each added six.
Rio Grande began the second half on a 13-10 run, leading Shawnee State 55-45 with 15:08 to play.
Over the next 12 minutes, the Bears outscored the RedStorm 29-19, tying the game at 74-all with 2:58 remaining.
The Bears would benefit from a 10-5 run over the final minutes of regulation to beat Rio Grande, 84-79, sweeping the season series against the RedStorm.
Shawnee State has now won seven of its last eight games against the RedStorm and extended its current winning streak to 10 games this season.
The trio of
Jason Steele,
Jareon Mayo and
Kiante Williams led the Bears in scoring with 14 points apiece. Mayo finished two rebounds shy of a double-double, totaling eight boards -- four offensive and four defensive.
Ahmadou Aw scored 13 points, while the pair of
Tyreon Payne and
Jaiden Guice each posted eight points.
Rheyce DeBoard finished the night with six points, shooting 2-of-2 from beyond the arc.
Rio Grande's Delon McCloud led all scorers with 26 points, shooting 9-of-17 from the field, 5-of-9 from three-point range and 3-of-4 at the free-throw line.
