Box Score PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- Shawnee State (17-6, 8-3) suffered its third conference loss of the season Tuesday, falling to No. 8 Rio Grande, 90-84.
The Bears brought the energy in the first quarter, outscoring the RedStorm 22-12 in the frame.
Shawnee State shot 9-of-16 (56.3%) in the quarter, with Jariah Steele leading all scorers with eight points.
The second quarter proved to be the most competitive of the evening, as Rio Grande outpaced Shawnee State 22-21, however, the Bears still took a 43-34 lead into the break.
Rio Grande's Marlee Grinstead led all scorers in the first half with 13 points, while Jariah Steele led the Bears with 10.
The RedStorm's offense exploded for 29 points in the third quarter, a quarter-high for either team, to Shawnee State's 26.
Shawnee State led Rio Grande 69-63 with a quarter to play.
The RedStorm opened the fourth quarter on a 10-4 run over the first four minutes to tie the game at 73-all.Â
The teams traded runs over the next two minutes, with the game tied at 83-all with 2:39 to play.
Rio Grande finished the final two and a half minutes on a 7-1 run to beat Shawnee State 90-84.
Laken Williams led the Bears in scoring with a season-high 23 points on 9-of-16 shooting, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range, while going 2-of-4 at the free-throw line.
Kyla Torok scored 19 points on 9-of-15 shooting (1-of-2 from the foul line) and grabbed five rebounds.
The duo of Miyoshi Ellis and TK Catchings scored 12 points apiece, while Jariah Steele added 10.
Jonilyah Chambers, who exited the game due to injury in the second half, scored six points and collected four rebounds
