Box Score PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- Shawnee State (24-5, 15-1) is advancing to the River States Conference Tournament semifinals following its 78-62 quarterfinal win over Brescia on Wednesday.
The Bears started fast and efficient Wednesday evening, leading the Bearcats 35-26 at the break.
Jason Steele led Shawnee State in first-half scoring with nine points and three rebounds, while
Tyreon Payne scored seven.
Brescia opened the second half on a 15-7 run over the first six minutes to cut Shawnee State's lead to 42-41 with 13:30 remaining.
The Bears responded with a 20-11 run to take a 62-52 lead over Brescia with 5:13 to play.
Shawnee State outscored Brescia 16-10 over the final five minutes of the second half to secure the 78-62 quarterfinal victory.
Jareon Mayo led the Bears with 16 points, shooting 6-of-13 from the field, 2-of-2 from the free-throw line and 2-of-7 from beyond the arc.
Tyreon Payne posted 15 points and seven assists, while
El Sieger knocked down four three-pointers en route to a 14-point night.
Jason Steele scored 12 points, while
Kiante Williams came two points shy of a double-double with eight points and 10 rebounds.
Rheyce DeBoard and
Ahmadou Aw each finished with five points.
