Box Score MIDWAY, Ky. -- Shawnee State (21-7, 12-4) secured home-court advantage for the first round of the River States Conference Tournament on Saturday, beating Midway 82-71 to clinch the tiebreaker over the Eagles.
The first half of Saturday conference matchup was tightly contested, with the Bears holding a 34-31 advantage at the break.
Jariah Steele led all scorers at halftime with eight points, while
Kyla Torok added six.
Midway began the third quarter on a 12-3 run, leading Shawnee State 43-37 with 5:39 to go in the frame.
Shawnee State would then finish the quarter on a 15-4 run to lead the Eagles 52-47 going into the fourth.
Midway did not hold a lead in the fourth quarter, as Shawnee State outscored the Eagles 30-24 and led by 10 or more points over the final five minutes to secure the 82-71 road victory.
Laken Williams and
Jariah Steele each led the Bears with 16 points. Steele finished one rebound shy of her first double-double of the season with nine boards, while Williams scored 11 or more points for the eighth consecutive game.
Ra'Khyia Prince scored 13 points and collected three steals, while
Miyoshi Ellis recorded 12 points, seven assists, four rebounds and two steals.
Kyla Torok had 10 points and seven rebounds, and
Lilly-May Walker posted nine points.
