Box Score PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- Shawnee State (21-4, 13-0) clinched the River States Conference regular-season crown Tuesday with a 76-70 victory over IU East.
The Bears and Red Wolves traded blows in the first half Tuesday, with Shawnee State holding a slight 43-40 edge at the break.
Jareon Mayo led the Bears in first-half scoring with eight points, while
Ahmadou Aw,
Rheyce DeBoard and
Tony Webb, Jr. scored seven points apiece.
IU East's Mikey Johnson led all scorers with 12 points.
Despite a competitive second half, Shawnee State maintained its first-half lead and outscored IU East 33-30 to claim the 76-70 conference victory.
IU Kokomo suffered its third conference loss of the season, falling 76-70 to Saint Mary-of-the-Woods. With three conference games remaining, Shawnee State has clinched its first River States Conference regular-season title in program history, and an automatic bid to the NAIA National Tournament.
Jareon Mayo led the Bears in scoring with 12 points, along with five rebounds and four steals.
The trio of
Ahmadou Aw,
Jason Steele and
Tyreon Payne scored 11 point apiece, while
Rheyce DeBoard finished with nine points and five rebounds.
Kiante Williams scored eight points and grabbed eight rebounds, and
Tony Webb, Jr. posted seven points and four boards.
