Box Score PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- Shawnee State (18-4, 10-0) picked up a ranked win Saturday, besting No. 25 IU Kokomo, 67-62. The Bears are now the only River States Conference team with a perfect league record, regardless of division.
The Bears started the afternoon strong, outscoring the Panthers 38-24 in the first half.
El Sieger served as an offensive anchor in the frame for Shawnee State, scoring 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field, including 2-of-5 from beyond the arc, and 2-of-2 at the free-throw line.
Kiante Williams scored seven points, while
Jason Steele added five.
IU Kokomo seized momentum in the second half with a 16-4 run over the opening 10 minutes, cutting Shawnee State's lead to 42-40.
The Bears and Panthers traded runs over the next eight minutes, leaving the game tied at 62-all with 1:30 to play.
In the final 90 seconds, Shawnee State went on a 5-0 run to seal the 67-62 conference victory over the Panthers.
The Bears' win snapped IU Kokomo's 18-game winning streak, the second-longest active streak in NAIA men's basketball, trailing only Grace College's 21-game streak, which also ended Saturday.
El Sieger led all scorers with 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting (2-of-5 from three-point range), while converting all four of his foul shots.
Jason Steele scored 12 points and collected five rebounds. Eight of Steele's points came from the free-throw line.
Tyreon Payne finished the afternoon with eight points, while
Kiante Williams contributed seven.
The duo of
Jareon Mayo and
Tony Webb, Jr. scored six points apice.
