Box Score BECKLEY, W. Va. -- Shawnee State (17-4, 9-0) won its eighth consecutive game, along with 15 of its last 16, Tuesday night, defeating West Virginia Tech 69-60 at the Beckley Convention Center.
The Bears controlled the opening half from start to finish, taking a 39-27 lead over West Virginia Tech into the break.
Jareon Mayo and
El Sieger led Shawnee State in first-half scoring with seven points apiece, while
Jason Steele and
Ahmadou Aw each finished with six points.
West Virginia Tech's Brandon Moore led all scorers in the first half with 10 points.
Despite being outscored 33-30 in the second half, Shawnee State maintained control down the stretch to secure the 69-60 win over WVU Tech and remain unbeaten in conference play.
Tyreon Payne,
the reigning River States Conference Offensive Player of the Week, led all scorers in second-half scoring with 10 points.
Jason Steele and Mayo led the Bears in scoring with 12 points apiece, each adding three rebounds and a steal. Steele scored all 12 of his points from the free-throw line, making a season-high 12 of 14 attempts.
Aw finished with 11 points and two rebounds, while Payne added 10 points and three steals.
El Sieger scored nine points, while
Kiante Williams and
Trevino Glover contributed eight and six points, respectively.
