(RV) SSU WBB Erases 10-Point Fourth-Quarter Deficit, Beats Midway 71-67

Box Score PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- Shawnee State (11-3, 2-0) trailed Midway by 10 with 9:03 to go in the fourth quarter, however, the Bears would outscore the Eagles 24-10 over the remainder of regulation to pick up their 11th win of the season and remain unbeaten in River States Conference play.

Shawnee State played from behind for a large majority of Saturday afternoon's River States Conference meeting with Midway -- something that began in the opening frame as Midway led SSU 15-13 after the first quarter.

Miyoshi Ellis and Jariah Steele each led the Bears in first-quarter scoring with four points apiece, while Midway's Jermya Christian paced all scorers with nine.

Midway would continue to add to their lead in the second quarter as the Eagles outscored Shawnee State 19-15 in the frame, and would take a 34-28 lead into halftime.

Skylar Kesler led the Bears in scoring in the quarter with six points, while Miyoshi Ellis added four more points on to what would eventually be a game-high 16.

Trinity Johnson of Midway led all scorers in the second quarter with 10 points on 3-of-3 shooting from three-point range and converting 1-of-2 attempts from the free-throw line.

Up six at the break, Midway would nurse their lead in the second half as they outscored Shawnee State 19-17 in the third quarter.

Miyoshi Ellis and TK Catchings finished tied with a team-high five points in the frame, while A'Lyrica Hughes of Midway paced all scorers with eight points.

Midway would take a 53-45 wire-to-wire lead over Shawnee State into the afternoon's final quarter.

The fourth quarter appeared to be heading in the same direction as the first three, but Shawnee State wasn't finished yet.

Midway began on a 4-2 run over the first minute of the fourth quarter -- increasing their lead over SSU to a quarter-high 10 points.

Staring down its first River States Conference loss of the season, Shawnee State would outscore Midway 24-10 over the final 9:03 of regulation to beat the Eagles 71-67 and remain unbeaten in conference play.

Jariah Steele and Lilly-May Walker each led the Bears in fourth-quarter scoring with five points.

On the night, Miyoshi Ellis led all scorers with 17 points, five rebounds, three steals and an assist, while Jariah Steele scored a season-high 14 points and snagged seven rebounds.

TK Catchings finished with seven points, eight rebounds and two blocks, while Skylar Kesler and Lauren Hawthorne scored six points apiece.

Jonilyah Chambers, Ra'Khyia Prince and Lilly-May Walker each added five points.
