Box Score PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- Shawnee State (15-4, 7-0) fended off Kentucky Christian at home Tuesday evening. Trailing at halftime, the Bears rallied in the second half to remain unbeaten in River States Conference play.
The Bears and Knights traded blows throughout the first half, with Shawnee State leading 38-35 with 4:57 remaining.
Kentucky Christian then finished the half on an 11-5 run to lead the Bears 46-43 at the break.
Jason Steele led Shawnee State in first-half scoring with 12 points on 3-of-5 shooting (0-of-1 from three), while converting on 7-of-7 tries from the foul line.
El Sieger scored eight points in the stanza, while
Ahmadou Aw added six.
Rheyce DeBoard and
Jaiden Guice each finished the half with five points.
Kentucky Christian's Parker Watts led all scorers at the half with 14 points.
The Knights opened the second half on a 18-15 run during the first seven minutes, leading the Bears 64-58.
Shawnee State then answered with a 16-2 run over the next four minutes of game time, leading Kentucky Christian 74-66 with 8:06 to go.
Kentucky Christian would fail to come within a point of the Bears for the final eight minutes, as Shawnee State was able to successfully protect their lead until the final buzzer, eventually beating the Knights 84-78.
Shawnee State MBB, much like the women's basketball team, is now 5-0 all time against Kentucky Christian.
El Sieger led all scorers with 22 points on 7-of-10 shooting (3-of-4 from three), while making 5-of-6 free throws.
Jason Steele finished just behind Sieger with 21 points on 5-11 shooting, while knocking down a season-high 11 free throws on 12 attempts.
Ahmadou Aw recorded his first double-double of the season, scoring 14 points and grabbing a season-high 10 rebounds.
The duo of
Rheyce DeBoard and
Jareon Mayo each scored eight points, while
Jaiden Guice finished with five.
