Box Score PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- Shawnee State (14-4, 5-1) extended its winning streak to three games Saturday with an 81-48 win over Oakland City. The Bears sit in second place in the River States Conference standings, trailing No. 8 Rio Grande, which remains unbeaten in conference play at 6-0.
Shawnee State surged to a strong start Saturday afternoon, outscoring Oakland City 20-6 in the first quarter. The Mighty Oaks led 3-2 early, before the Bears went on an 18-3 run over the final eight minutes of the frame.
TK Catchings scored six points on 3-of-4 shooting to lead the Bears offensively in the first, while
Miyoshi Ellis added five points.
Oakland City showed a more efficient offensive effort in the second quarter, but Shawnee State extended its first-half lead by outscoring the Oaks 16-11.
Ellis and
Kyla Torok led the Bears in second-quarter scoring with four points apiece. Ellis' nine first-half points led all scorers.
Shawnee State increased its lead in both second-half quarters, winning the third and fourth periods 17-9 and 28-22, respectively.
The 81-48 victory marked the eighth time in 14 wins this season the Bears have won by 20 points or more.
Kyla Torok led Shawnee State in scoring with 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting, along with six rebounds and one steal.
TK Catchings finished with 10 points, four rebounds, three steals and one block.
Miyoshi Ellis and
Emily Maynard scored nine points apiece, while
Lilly-May Walker and
Makenzie Daubenmire added seven points each, a career high for Daubenmire.
Giavonnie Belton collected her first points as a Shawnee State Bear, scoring six on 2-of-4 shooting from three-point range.
Lauren Hawthorne also scored six points, while also grabbing five rebounds.
