Box Score PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- Shawnee State (13-4, 4-1) earned its seventh consecutive win over IU East on Tuesday, defeating the Red Wolves 59-38. The Bears improved to 7-0 all time against IU East, with their smallest margin of victory in the series being 19 points.
The Bears got off to a quick and efficient start in Tuesday night's River States Conference matchup with IU East, as they outscored the Red Wolves 24-12 in the first quarter.
Laken Williams and
Lauren Hawthorne each scored five points in the opening frame to pace Shawnee State's scoring efforts, while
TK Catchings and
Lilly-May Walker chipped in four points apiece.
Momentum would shift in the second quarter, however, as IU East went on a 7-0 run over the final 4:57 of the first half to cut Shawnee State's lead down to 32-27 at the break.
The Bears only managed eight points offensively in the frame, with
Laken Williams accounting for four of them.
Shawnee State would regroup and reestablish themselves in the second half, outscoring the Red Wolves 13-7 and 14-4 in the third and fourth quarters, respectively -- helping the Bears secure the 59-38 conference win.
The Bears allowed just four points in the fourth quarter, the fewest they have surrendered in any quarter this season, breaking the previous low of six points.
Jonilyah Chambers scored nine of her team-high 12 points in the second half, overall shooting 4-of-7 from the field, 3-of-6 from three-point range and 1-of-1 from the free-throw line.
Miyoshi Ellis and
Laken Williams scored nine points apiece, with
TK Catchings and
Lilly-May Walker adding eight and six points, respectively.
Lauren Hawthorne finished with five points, while
Kyla Torok and
Ra'Khyia Prince each added four. Torok also grabbed 10 rebounds, marking the fifth time in 15 games the junior has reached double figures on the boards.
IU East's Maggie Anderson led all scorers with 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting (1-of-2 from three), while converting 2-of-2 attempts from the free-throw line.
