Wellman shoots 81 in second round, earns UPike Fall Invite All-Tourney honors; SSU WGOLF finishes second as team

PRESTONSBURG, Ky. -- The women's golf program at Shawnee State got an outstanding effort from Shawnee State junior golfer Aly Wellman, who followed up a promising 86 with a second-day 81 -- the lowest round of her collegiate career -- to claim a second-place showing as a team at the UPike Fall Invitational, which was held at Stonecrest Golf Course in Prestonsburg, Ky. Tuesday evening.

In posting her stout round of 81, Wellman notched an eagle on the 12th hole, a 351-yard par five, in doing so -- posting a strong three-over 39 on the back nine holes to conclude her final round of action. Wellman, who shot a two-day 167, finished fifth overall in the 21-golfer field.

Wellman finished just six strokes back of the UPike Fall Invitational Tournament winner, Bluefield's Savannah Riley, and just four back of a runner-up position in the final rundown.
