SSU MSOC looks to continue roll against Campbellsville; tailgate to be held by SSU Student Programming Board

Less than 72 hours ago, the Shawnee State men's soccer program claimed its biggest win in program history.

Now, the Bears will look to keep the momentum going against an old conference foe and a familiar face to many.

Stan Rodrigues' 2-0-1 Shawnee State Bears will take on historical power Campbellsville (0-2) as SSU looks to continue building on its early season momentum that the first three games of 2025 have carried along with it.
PREVIEWING SHAWNEE STATE
  • Shawnee State held Milligan (Tenn.) to just eight shots with two on goal (one in each half) in the Bears' thrilling 1-0 triumph over the No. 20 Buffaloes Saturday evening. The Bears posted nine shots themselves, but put five shots on frame including the game winner by Marco Riva with just 1:37 to play.
  • Its Shawnee State's second-ever victory against a ranked opponent in program history and defeat its first ranked opponent since 2013 while scoring the program's biggest win in its history.
  • The win is SSU's first over a ranked foe since defeating No. 22 Campbellsville, 2-1, on October 19, 2013. Milligan is 32-4-9 over the last two seasons, has won the AAC in back-to-back years and was the 2023 NAIA National Runner-Up.
  • In his first three matches of the 2025 season, Riva scored in the 78th minute to tie Ave Maria, 1-1, on an unassisted goal, provided the game-winning assist to Nikos Pontikis in SSU's second goal in the 58th minute in a 3-1 victory over Warner, and scored the game-winner against No. 20 Milligan in the 89th minute.
  • Belo Bitencourt won his second career River States Conference Defensive Player of the Week after playing all 90 minutes in Shawnee State's 1-0 over Milligan. Bitencourt is the only player on Shawnee State's roster to play all 270 minutes of the 2025 season, and the senior captain has been crucial in holding opponents to less than .70 goals per game and a 0.057 shot percentage in 2025.
PREVIEWING CAMPBELLSVILLE
  • Campbellsville sits 0-2, but the Tigers' losses have been to highly-regarded and nationally recognized competition as Campbellsville dropped two decisions to (RV) Georgia Gwinnett, who is the top team receiving votes just outside of the NAIA Top 25 Poll (2-0), and the No. 1-ranked team in the 2025 NAIA Men's Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll, Dalton State (Ga.), 4-0.
  • Standout Campbellsville goalkeeper Malthe Schou is a key piece that returns from the Tigers' 2024 squad to the 2025 version of the roster. In 2024, Schou made 56 saves in 19 games and recorded a goals-against-average of 1.33 for the season.
  • Campbellsville has recorded 13 consecutive winning seasons in a row heading into 2025. Since the beginning of the 2012 season, the Tigers are 183-70-22.
  • Current Campbellsville men's soccer head coach Drew Sin is the program's all-time leader in a single-season in games played (24) and is second in program history in career games played (83). Sin's assistant coach, James Clements, has three of the top-five single-season save marks in program history and is first all-time among all goalkeepers in career saves (315).
