Texas native Williams inks with Lymas, SSU MBB

Over the past decade, the term 'positionless basketball' has certainly caught on across the globe.

The talent that Shawnee State men's basketball head coach Fred Lymas is reeling in certainly fits that mold, and individually, there may not be a single player that fits the mold better than incoming talent Kiante Williams, who will join the Shawnee State men's basketball program for the 2025-26 season onward.

"I'm blessed for the opportunity to play at Shawnee State," Williams said. "I'm fully bought in and ready to win and make some history happen."

A member of the Class of 2022 who was once ranked as high as 45th nationally in his class and was a member of the ESPN 60 at one point, Williams was ranked higher than the following players as a sophomore in high school by ESPN:
  • Former Duke Blue Devil and current Dallas Maverick Dereck Lively II -- who ended up being the 12th overall pick by Dallas in 2023 and played in the 2024 NBA Finals
  • Former Connecticut Huskie and current Portland Trail Blazer Donovan Clingan -- who won back-to-back NCAA Division I National Championships with UCONN and was the seventh overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft
  • Former Arkansas Razorback Nick Smith, Jr., who became the 27th overall pick of the Charlotte Hornets in the 2023 NBA Draft
Williams, who played at Lubbock Estacado High School in Lubbock, Texas, was the 2021 District 3-4A MVP after averaging 18.8 points, eight rebounds, four steals, three assists and three blocks as a junior -- and repeated as an All-District caliber talent in 2022 by earning First-Team District 3-4A as a senior.

24/7 Sports ultimately ranked Williams as the 327th best player in the Class of 2022 upon graduation, and Williams earned a composite rating of .8278 to earn a three-star designation from 24/7.

After attending North Idaho College for the 2022-23 season and NCAA Division I Bethune Cookman in 2023-24, Williams landed at Reid State Community College for the 2024-25 campaign.

While there, Williams averaged 10.2 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game on 49.7 percent shooting from the field and a 34.8 percent clip from three-point range. Williams scored in double-figures in 13 of the 24 games that he appeared in for Reid State, posted five double-doubles, and had eight games with three or more blocks including two five-block outings in the 2024 portion of the schedule.
