The men's and women's tennis programs at Shawnee State underwent a transition phase as the program changed hands from Jacob Freeland to Greg Geremia prior to the beginning of the 2024-25 season, but despite the changeover in staff and a large degree of new faces on both rosters, Geremia helped steady the ship while an experienced crew, on both sides of the coin, helped Shawnee State ultimately produce three All-River States Conference tennis talents and four CSC-NAIA Academic All-District honorees during the year.
Arva Purbo, Cristobal Cervantes, Foose, Harman named CSC-NAIA Academic All-District honorees
Ultimately, the Shawnee State men's and women's tennis programs continued their standard of excellence in the classroom -- with the women's tennis program finishing with a top-three team GPA in the athletic department, well above the 3.5 range, and the men's tennis program hovering around a 3.3 cumulative GPA.
Foose, a multi-sport athlete who also bowled, finished with a 3.91 GPA in primary education and made the President's List in three out of her final four semesters on campus and obtained over 130 hours of academic credit, while Harman nabbed a 3.77 GPA in exercise science and finished with over 155 hours of academic credit obtained in her four years at SSU.
Cristobal, who holds a 3.65 GPA in business management, has passed over 120 hours of academic credit, while Arva Purbo, who held a 3.5 at the time of nomination, has passed over 110 hours of academic credit as an information security major.

In addition to the above quartet of CSC-NAIA Academic All-District honorees, Cristobal Cervantes, Harman and Shawnee State women's tennis veteran
Antonia Ilea were each named as Third-Team All-RSCÂ honorees during the course of the academic year.
Cristobal Cervantes, who has played at the No. 1 doubles and either the No. 1 or No. 2 singles slot, won four ITA-NAIA matches over the course of the season in doubles play, defeating Mount Vernon Nazarene's, Indiana-East's, Spring Arbor's and Indiana-Southeast's top doubles units.
Additionally, Cristobal Cervantes advanced to play in the Round of 32 at the ITA-NAIA Regional Championships as a doubles participant for Shawnee State in September 2024, falling to Pikeville's top doubles unit of Juan Alzate and Ahmed Hassairi by a 7-6 (7-2) margin.
Ilea and Harman, who were the primary doubles unit throughout much of the season -- and the entire spring -- won a doubles match against Spring Arbor's No. 1 doubles unit back on March 7, with Ilea also claiming another doubles win alongside Foose during the fall semester.
In the spring semester alone, Ilea claimed three singles victories -- defeating Indiana-East's Brooke Schafstall (4-6, 6-4, 6-4), Spring Arbor's Madelyn Dell (6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (7-4) and Indiana-Southeast's Maci Vaughn (6-1, 7-5) in competition.
