Mendoza reaches 100-hit mark for career; SSU drops tight decisions to No. 11 Indiana-Southeast (10-6, 5-4 Ls)

WESTFIELD, Ind. -- The baseball program at Shawnee State dropped a competitive doubleheader against Indiana-Southeast Monday, as the Bears fell in 10-6 and 5-4 decisions in River States Conference contests to the Grenadiers in two bouts that were held at Grand Park Sports Complex in Westfield, Ind.

Game 1 -- No. 11 Indiana-Southeast 10, Shawnee State 6

The highlight of Game 1 proved to be Diego Mendoza -- as the catcher reached the 100-hit mark for his career by leading Shawnee State with a 3-for-5 outing that included a double and an RBI in Game 1. Mendoza now sits at exactly 100 career hits.

Shawnee State fell behind 5-0 in the opening inning-and-a-half of work, but rallied to within 6-5 as the Bears scored three runs in the second inning followed by two tallies in the third frame -- as Mendoza, along with Jace Parnin and Zach Gaspar, helped lead the SSU offensive output during those frames.

Parnin ultimately went 2-for-4 with a home run, an RBI and a run scored while Gaspar also went 2-for-4 with a homer, two RBI and a run scored himself.

Tyler Lund (1-for-3, walk, run scored), Michael De Jesus (1-for-4, run scored), Hunter Warner (1-for-5, double, run scored) and Mason Reid (1-for-5, home run, RBI, run scored) rounded out the Game 1 leaders offensively.

Game 2 -- No. 11 Indiana-Southeast 5, Shawnee State 4

Shawnee State utilized a strong Game 2 from leadoff hitter Eli Jones -- who went 4-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored -- to take an early lead as the Bears collected a 4-2 advantage through three innings of work. Indiana-Southeast was able to answer with three unanswered runs in the fifth and sixth, however, allowing the Grenadiers to obtain the win.

Along with Jones, Hunter Warner (2-for-2, walk, triple, RBI), Tyler Lund (1-for-3, run scored) and Mason Reid (1-for-3, two runs scored) also contributed to the Shawnee State lineup from a hitting standpoint.
