RIO GRANDE, Ohio -- The softball program at Shawnee State dropped a doubleheader to Rio Grande in its River States Conference opening contests Saturday, dropping 11-1 and 9-1 decisions in Rio Grande.
Genavie Espinoza's one-out RBI single brought in Jenna Christopher in the fourth inning of Game 1 while Bianca Belo-Diaz's double to left field brought home Sierra Dunnagan in the third inning of Game 2.
Espinoza (1-for-2, RBI), Christopher (1-for-2, run scored) and Dunnagan (1-for-2) led Shawnee State's offense in Game 1 while Belo-Diaz (2-for-2, double, walk, RBI), Espinoza (1-for-3), Dunnagan (1-for-3, double, run scored), Mackenzie Hale (1-for-3, double) and Emily Moore (1-for-2) rounded out the Shawnee State players who nabbed hits in Game 2.
The Bears (2-6, 0-2 River States Conference) will return to action Tuesday afternoon against West Virginia Tech in what will be another River States Conference doubleheader. The contests will serve as Shawnee State's home openers at Doc Singleton Park. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. with the second contest to follow approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the opener.
