COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The women's tennis program at Shawnee State got two victories from Miranda Johnson and McKenzie Harman at No. 3 singles and No. 4 singles respectively, salvaging a pair of match points in a 5-2 setback to Capital Friday in a nonconference contest that was held at Wolfe Park in Columbus.
Johnson continued showcasing herself as a bright spot -- defeating Capital's Annika Hansen 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3 singles -- while Harman pulled out a gritty win at the No. 4 singles position, defeating Capital's Kylee Fliter 6-4, 7-5.
In addition to the above duo, Brooklyn Foose again put together a competitive match at No. 1 singles, falling to Capital's Anna Fletcher by a 2-6, 5-7 margin, while Antonia Ilea and McKenzie Harman combined for a solid effort at No. 1 doubles, falling 3-6 to Fletcher and Nicole Flock at the position.
The women's tennis program at Shawnee State will be back in action alongside the men's tennis program Saturday, Feb. 22 when the Bears take on Georgetown (Ky.) in Georgetown in what will be Shawnee State's final nonconference matches of the spring before River States Conference play heats up over the final three weeks of the regular season.
