SSU men's, women's swim closes weekend with four provisional cuts in 100 freestyle from four different individuals

WOOSTER, Ohio -- The men's and women's swimming programs at Shawnee State closed out the Wooster Invitational Saturday with four additional NAIA provisional cut times, as Shawnee State men's and women's swimming head coach Tricia Boggs finished the weekend by hitting 16 NAIA provisional cut times and one NAIA standard relay time in all, including four between the men's and women's 100 yard freestyles as De-Nicha Lewis, Malik Nelson, Josiah Changar and Kutay Ababay all hit provisional cut times in the event on the third and final day of the event, which was held on the College of Wooster campus.

Lewis, who swam a 53.43 to finish second in a 24-swimmer event, now sits 26th overall in the NAIA this season with her time in the 100 yard freestyle. The senior was one of just four swimmers to swim underneath 54 seconds in the field. Lewis bettered the NAIA provisional cut time by nearly two full seconds in another fantastic performance.

Nelson (46.58), Changar (47.16) and Ababay (47.86) all swam underneath the NAIA provisional cutoff of 47.90 in the event on Saturday. The trio finished fourth, sixth and 12th in a 24-swimmer field, respectively -- with Nelson posting a time that was over 1.3 seconds faster than the provisional cutoff time.

Along with the quartet, Shawnee State senior women's swimmer Abigail Bosler finished as the meet runner-up in the 200 yard breaststroke, finishing second of 24 individuals by swimming a 2:28.84 as one of just two individuals to swim underneath a 2:30 in the event.

The men's swimming program, who ultimately scored 849 points, finished fifth in the event, while the women's swimming program collected an eighth-place showing with 510 points.

Both the men's and women's swimming programs at Shawnee State are scheduled to return to action Thursday, Dec. 11 when Shawnee State heads to Pikeville and the Pikeville Area Family YMCA for a meet between the two programs.
