PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – The Shawnee State men's and women's swimming programs split Thursday's dual meet against the University of Pikeville, however, SSU's teams collectively won the meet 144-132.
Individually on the women's side,
Reagan Lewis placed first in both the 50 and 100 yard freestyle events with times of 27.64 and 1:02.92, respectively.
In addition to Lewis,
Abigail Bosler posted two first-place finished for SSU -- winning both the 100 yard individual medley with a 1:06.88 and the 200 yard freestyle with a 2:10.93.
The women's team fell to Pikeville 36-74.
Individually for the men's team,
Robert Gibson notched a first-place finish in the 400 yard freestyle with an official time of 4:11.64. Gibson also won the 200 yard freestyle with a 1:53.84, edging out teammate
Evan Ater's 1:57.66 for first-place.
Evan Ater, along with the previously mentioned second-place finish in the 200 yard freestyle, placed first in the 50 yard backstroke with a 26.64.
Tucker Hall added a first-place finish in the 100 yard butterfly with an official time of 1:01.56, along with a third-place finish in the 100 yard medley 1:09.98.
Three SSU Bears placed in the top-three of the 50 yard freestyle with
Kutay Ababay's 23.16 winning the event, along with
Tony Goodwin's 23.18 and
Thomas Kessler's 24.80 following. Ababay also placed third in the 50 yard butterfly with a time of 25.72.
Along with Thomas Kesslar's third-place finish in the 50 yard freestyle, the sophomore placed first in the 100 yard freestyle with a 52.26 official time.
Luke Lunsford posted a 1:00.20 to finish first in the 100 yard medley, and also placed second in the 50 yard butterfly with a 25.64.
Tony Goodwin won the 50 yard butterfly event with a 24.83, and finished second in the 50 yard freestyle with an official time of 23.18.
The men's 200 yard medley relay team of
Evan Ater,
Luke Lunsford,
Tony Goodwin and
Kutay Ababay finished second in the event with a 1:48.70. That same team went on to win the 200 yard freestyle relay with an official time of 1:34.28 in the evening's final event.
The men's team bested Pikeville 108-58, and SSU collectively won the meet 144-132.
