SSU MSOC has five named to CSC Academic All-District list

GREENWOOD, Ind. -- The men's soccer program at Shawnee State placed five individuals on the College Sports Communicators' Academic All-District list Tuesday afternoon, as Belo Bitencourt, Joao Coqueti Leo, Alfie Maynard, Cameron Thompson and Theo Trindade were all named to the College Sports Communicators' Academic All-District list as well in a release that was put out by national officials.

Four of the five athletes listed have grade-point-averages at or above 3.7 at Shawnee State, with Thompson's 3.91 GPA heading the charge. A Second-Team All-RSC honoree as a freshman in 2024, Thompson has played in each of the Bears' 37 matches in his career and has scored six career goals. Thompson is an information security major.

Behind Thompson, Coqueti Leo and Trindade, both sophomores from Brazil, hold GPAs of 3.82 and 3.8, respectively.

Coqueti Leo, a Third-Team All-RSC honoree in 2024 who has scored seven goals and tallied an assist in his career, has played in 35 out of a possible 37 matches in his first two seasons at Shawnee State with 30 career starts. Coqueti is an information systems management major who made the Dean's List in the Fall 2024 semester and the President's List in the Spring 2025 semester.

Trindade, a Third-Team All-RSC honoree in 2024 as well, has five goals, six assists and 16 points for his own Shawnee State career. The sophomore, an information security major, has made the Dean's List in each of his first two semesters on campus.

Maynard, who finished his career with 16 goals, seven assists and 39 points between his stops at Shawnee State and Blue Mountain Christian (Miss.), was recently recognized as a 2025 Second-Team All-RSC honoree and has made the Dean's List twice since transferring to SSU. The sport management major has a 3.7 GPA.

Last but not least, Bitencourt's 3.55 GPA rounded out the group. A plastics engineering technology major, Bitencourt -- a two-time RSC Defensive Player of the Week -- played in 66 career matches with 65 starts, and played in and started in each of Shawnee State's 52 matches over the last three seasons. The senior from Sao Paulo, Brazil, a two-time Second-Team All-RSC honoree, has made the Dean's List four times and finished his career with six goals, three assists and 15 points in all.

To earn College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors, individuals will have to play in at least 90 percent of games, contests, sets or matches or start in at least 66 percent of the games, contests, sets or matches while maintaining the required 3.5 GPA.
