Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

SSU MBB matches program's single-game scoring record, sets program's margin of victory record with 142-43 win over Crown College (Tenn.)

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio -- The men's basketball program at Shawnee State matched a record that had stood for over 30 years and set another that had stood for the same amount of time -- as Shawnee State placed 13 different players in the scoring column, 12 in the first half, and posted 25 assists to eight turnovers en route to shooting 59.2 percent from the field in a 142-43 victory over Crown College (Tenn.), matching the single-game scoring record and setting the program record for victory margin in a single game in the 99-point triumph.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

Along with shooting 58-of-98 from the field to obtain its 59.2 percent clip from the field, Shawnee State posted a massive 96-2 advantage in bench points and obtained an astronomical 100-14 edge in points in the paint. Crown was also held to just two second-chance points by the SSU defense.

The 142 points scored by Shawnee State in the contest are the most since January 11, 1995 -- when Shawnee State posted the same total in a 142-77 win over Cincinnati-Clermont.

The Bears' 99-point margin of victory exceeded its largest win total in program history, which was previously set on November 16, 1995 in a 134-46 win (88-point margin) over Ohio Christian.

GAME FLOW

Ahead 11-7 with 16:03 to play in the opening half, Shawnee State went on a 53-7 run the rest of the way to take a 50-point halftime lead (64-14). By then, 12 different players had already scored, including Jareon Mayo who led the Bears at the break with 14 points, going 5-of-8 from the floor in doing so.

Daniel Rosenber (eight points, five rebounds, two blocks, steal), Tyreon Payne (eight points, two rebounds, two assists, two steals), Rheyce DeBoard (six points, three rebounds, two assists, two steals) and Tyson LaLonde (six points, two assists) also enjoyed productive opening halves in their own right. That quartet combined to go 13-of-16 from the field in the opening 20 minutes of action.

Shawnee State went on a 52-15 run to begin the second half of play over the first 12:46 -- putting the game to bed officially.

LaLonde and fellow Shawnee State true freshman Cameron Gibson each finished with new career-highs in the contest -- as LaLonde went 9-of-13 from the field en route to a 20-point, three-assist, two-steal line, while Gibson added in 20 points and seven rebounds on 9-of-12 shooting.

Five additional players, including Mayo (16 points, four rebounds, steal, 6-of-10 shooting), Jaiden Guice (13 points, 4-of-7 shooting), Kiante Williams (12 points, 11 rebounds, two blocks, two steals, 5-of-10 shooting), El Sieger (11 points, 4-of-6 shooting) and Rosenber (10 points, six rebounds, two blocks, one steal) all finished in double-figures.

Tyreon Payne (nine points, four rebounds, four assists, two steals), Bryson Chandley -- who also set a career-high with nine points and added in four rebounds and two assists -- also flirted with double-figures while Trevino Glover's seven assists, Ahmadou Aw's eight rebounds and six points and Rheyce DeBoard's six points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals filled up the stat sheet.
