Ellis notches River States Conference Defensive Player of the Week Award

OXFORD, Ohio -- Behind a stretch where Shawnee State lead guard Miyoshi Ellis led the Bears to a 3-0 mark for the week with victories by at least nine or more points in all three contests that the Bears played in, the stat-sheet-stuffing-senior was named as the River States Conference's Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by conference officials Monday afternoon.

Ellis was a personal wrecking ball all week on both ends of the floor, averaging 10.7 points, 4.3 assists, 3.3 rebounds, two steals and posting a 2.2-to-1 assist-to-turnover ratio from the lead guard spot.

The senior came off the bench to average 12 points, four assists, 2.5 rebounds (all defensive) and a steal against Simmons (Ky.) and Madonna (Mich.), then posted eight assists, five assists and four steals in her second game as a starter in 2025 in a 30-point victory over Carolina (N.C.). Shawnee State won all three contests by 81-42, 68-59 and 82-52 margins, respectively.

Monday's honor is the first such weekly honor of Ellis' career.
